Game at a Glance - Sacramento 70, Storm 68

RECAP

68

70
It's only the preseason, but the Seattle Storm and Sacramento Monarchs played to win Friday's game at ARCO Arena in Sacramento. Down one through three quarters, the Monarchs went up as many as eight in the fourth before consecutive three-pointers brought the Storm within one in the final 10 seconds. Kim Smith missed both free throws, but grabbed her own rebound and split two more as Sacramento held on for a 70-68 win.

In the team's second exhibition, the Storm made strides on offense. The addition of Swin Cash, playing her first game in a Storm uniform, was a big reason why. Cash had 17 points, eight boards and five assists. Fellow forward Shyra Ely scored 16 and Katie Gearlds came off the bench for 11, including three makes from downtown. Returning to Sacramento, Yolanda Griffith had 12 points and four assists.

The Storm saw Sheryl Swoopes leave the game in the first quarter with a left shoulder injury. She underwent X-rays in Sacramento and will have an MRI when the Storm returns to Seattle.

QUOTABLE
"When you have Sacramento down you have to keep them down because they’ll find a way to give [Kara Lawson] the ball or [Rebekkah Brunson] will get an offensive rebound."
- Yolanda Griffith
