Sparks vision and success continue to grow in 2009

The vision for the 2009 season and beyond is bright as we continue to build on a successful 2008 season that ultimately returned the Sparks to the Western Conference Finals. A 2008 season that included the return of Lisa Leslie and DeLisha Milton-Jones to Los Angeles and the debut of Candace Parker. All three; Leslie, Milton-Jones and Parker won Gold medals representing team USA during the ’08 Summer Olympics and Leslie came back to capture the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year award while Parker became the first player in WNBA history to win the MVP & Rookie of the Year award in the same season.

As for 2009, some exciting developments include the extension of the WNBA’s broadcast deal with ESPN which begins a new 8-year partnership (through 2016 season) following increased television ratings across all markets in ‘08. Ticket sales and sponsorship revenue has also increased in Los Angeles making the Sparks team one of the most prominent professional women’s teams in the country. With an exciting 17-game home schedule at STAPLES Center and another first round pick to go with our current roster of stars, the Sparks are loaded with potential to win their third WNBA Championship.
