Elaine Powell bio

Elaine Powell is a 5’9” guard who can shoot, pass, cause turnovers and step-up when her team needs her. Playing in the WNBA since 1999, Elaine has played guard for Orlando and most recently the Detroit Shock. She has also played professionally in Poland, Italy and in the ABL. After graduating Louisiana State in 1997, she went straight to the ABL drafted by Portland in the 3rd round (20th overall).

A frequent starter, Elaine averaged 5.6 points, 2.76 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in her last season with Detroit. Her career high in points scored was against Washington in 2001 when she posted 20 points. In 2004, this playmaker ranked 6th in the league in assists; she reached her career high and a franchise record twice with 10 against New York on Sept. 14, and Connecticut on June 27. In the 2004 playoffs alone, Elaine averaged 7.7 points, 2 rebounds, and 7 assists and led the league in average assists (7.0) and average steals (3.33) per game. In the 2003 playoffs she also helped her team by averaging 5.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists. Born in Monroe, LA., Elaine has already made her mark in the state of Louisiana. She was a two-time All-SEC selection and started 60 of 61 games at LSU, where she majored in physical education.

Elaine should feel right at home in with the Sky; her black Labrador retriever Jordan is named after another Chicago basketball player.
